Jonathan Torres, Cypress CC OF

By: Dutchmen Front Office

The Dutchmen have had a long history of talented left-handed bats. From UC-Santa Barbara doubles machine Brandon Trinkwon to power-hitting Georgetown first baseman Steve Anderson, Albany has been able to field a lineup capable of making right-handed pitching pay. With the addition of Cypress CC OF/C Jonathan Torres, the Dutchmen think they have another to add to the mix.

The Huntington Beach, California native has been a fixture in the middle of the lineup for the Chargers for the past two seasons. As a freshman last year, Torres hit .328 with two triples and 16 RBIs. He also struck out only eight times on the season, while compiling a .357 on-base percentage.

Twenty-one games into his sophomore season, Torres is on pace to top those numbers. He’s already collected 26 hits on the season, including four doubles and three triples. His .310 average and 11 RBIs are both good for top five on the team.

With his positional versatility and consistent contact rate, the 6’1” Torres could become a real problem for opposing teams in the 2013 season.
