There may not be a more important position on a baseball team than the closer. It takes a certain mentality to be able to step into the spotlight with the game on the line and seal a victory for your team. Finding a person who is capable of filling that role can often be what makes, or breaks, a team’s season. Following an incredible performance in 2012 from Trevor Lacosse (Bryant University), the Dutchmen think they’ve found another gem at the tail end of games with North Alabama sophomore Ben Seabrook.
A 5’10” right-hander from Huntsville, Alabama, Seabrook made an immediate impact for the Lions as a freshman in 2012. He led the team with 23 appearances, compiing a 1-1 record with a school record 12 saves. He finished the season 13th in NCAA Division Two in saves and allowed opponents to hit only .253 against him. In the 2013 season, Seabrook is again tied for the team lead in saves despite making fewer appearances.
With late game experience and collegiate success under his belt, the Dutchmen are looking for a calming presence from Seabrook in the 8th inning and beyond.
