Summer baseball teams are built around connections. Players make connections with each other, and with their host families, and the teams make connections with certain colleges. When players succeed, both on and off the field, colleges feel more comfortable sending back additional players and successful relationships are formed. This has been the case for the Dutchmen and Trinity University.

The Tigers are a division three powerhouse from San Antonio, Texas that consistently ranks in the top ten programs in the nation. This year’s sixth-ranked team is no different. The Tigers have also continuously sent the Dutchmen solid talent, from 2011’s Tanner Barron to 2010’s Ben Klimesh, who was an All-Star and the first Dutchmen selected in the MLB Draft. This year, the Dutchmen will welcome freshman third baseman Nick Morton.

A local NYC product, Morton came to Trinity after a prestigious high school career. Named All-League in both his junior and season seasons, Nick was also selected as an Under-Armour Preseason All-American both years, and was named to the Rawlings Top Prospects team before his junior year. He hit over .450 both of his final two seasons in high school, as a shortstop, and combined solid average with his 6.8 speed to steal over 30 bases. He also participated in collegiate baseball leagues in New York as a high school student, earning All-Star honors and being nominated for league MVP.

A former shortstop and outfielder, Nick officially moved to third base once he headed down south. However, his versatility as a defender makes him a perfect fit for the grueling summer season.
