Week 1: January 29-31By: Ryan Murphy The collegiate baseball season is underway! Junior colleges and a handful of NCAA schools got their seasons going in January, and a pair of Dutchmen from the 2015 roster began their first campaign after a summer in Albany on a high note. Hunter Boose, Augusta University (FKA Georgia Regents)- The infielder had a productive opening weekend for the Jaguars, who split a two game series with Florida Southern. In the opener, Boose went 3-for-4 with a run batted in during a 7-2 defeat. Boose drove in the final run of the game on an eighth inning double. Augusta won the finale of the series on Sunday by a 6-0 score. The infielder, who played shortstop for the Dutchmen but has started twice at first for Augusta, recorded two more hits and scored twice in the victory. He also recorded his second double of the young season. Zak Spivy, Polk State College- A bullpen standout from last year’s team, Spivy worked two innings as the first pitcher out of the bullpen in Polk State’s Saturday victory over Pasco-Hernando State College. Spivy did not allow a run and struck out three hitters as the Eagles moved to 2-0 with a 7-3 decision. Throughout the collegiate season, DutchmenBaseball.com will profile the play for former and future Dutchmen in the Spotlight Player of the Week space. More teams at the NCAA and NAIA levels begin play next weekend, and almost all teams at the NCAA level will play their first game before the end of the month. |
