Week #8: July 20 - July 26, 2016By: Brian Krosky Mychael Goudreau (Azusa Pacific University) has been named Albany Dutchmen Spotlight Player of the Week for Week #8, which lasted from July 20-July 26. Goudreau, an infielder for the Dutchmen who plays great defense at 2nd base, had an excellent week that saw his numbers rise across the board in nearly every statistical category. Within the past week, Goudreau batted .357 (5-14), which led the team, while also leading the team in runs (5), triples (1), RBI (4) and tied with the team lead in walks (4) while only striking out once. "I was struggling a little bit a couple of weeks ago," Goudreau said. "I’ve been working hard trying to get there early and work on my swing, and i feel like it’s paying off.” In the past seven days, Goudreau helped his offensive numbers dramatically, raising his on-base percentage 24 points, his slugging percentage 41 points, and his batting average 24 points as well. Not only did Goudreau have productive week on the stat sheet, but he was clutch for the Dutchmen in helping them go 4-1 and clinch a playoff spot in the PGCBL East Division. Goudreau had the game-winning two-RBI single up the middle against the Glens Falls Dragons on July 23 that helped them win 5-3, but Goudreau wasn't done there. He was also vital starting the offensive spark Monday against the Oneonta Outlaws as the Dutchmen erased a 7-0 defecit and won 8-7. He had an RBI and two runs in that game to help the Dutchmen clinch a playoff spot and leap ahead of the Outlaws in the standings to third place. “I feel I came up in good situations for the team," he said. “In some situations when I got up there I just didn’t want to think too much. Have the best at-bat for the team and not be selfish. I just want to have confidence and know I’m better than the pitcher.” With the playoff spot clinched, Goudreau said him and the team are looking forward to getting home-field advantage with the #2 seed, but to most importantly keep continuing the hot streak they are on. "We have a good team and we know we can do it," Goudreau said. "This last home stretch has been great; We’re getting hot. It feels great to clinch it. We just gotta keep competing: Hitting the ball hard and staying confident." |
