Dutchmen huddle following win over Glens Falls.

ALBANY, N.Y.- Cameron Masterman (Louisville) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Albany Dutchmen (20-14) defeated the Glens Falls Dragons (14-24), 6-5 at Connors Park on Saturday.

After Ubaldo Lopez (Dartmouth) hit a lead off single to begin the tenth. He then moved all the way to third on a failed pickoff attempt and overthrow at first base. Then, on a 2-0 count, Masterman placed a broken bat single through the left side to score the run and earn the win.

The Dutchmen led 5-2 into the eighth inning where the Dragons scored three times, highlighted by a Matt Hamel (Siena) double and a pair of sacrifice flies by Josh Arndt (Cornell) and Zach Fritz (LIU Post).

Hamel went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a double, while Phoenix Hernandez (Southern New Hampshire) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base for Glens Falls. 

After Glens Falls struck first on a Danny Ryan (Fairfield) sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, Albany took the lead in the third on an RBI single by Golston Gillespie (Ole Miss) and a triple to score him one batter later off the bat of Cole McNamee (Wake Forest). McNamee scored one batter later on a Peter Burns (Boston College) sacrifice fly to give the Dutchmen a 3-1 advantage. 

The Dragons cut the deficit to one in the sixth before the Dutchmen answered with two in the bottom half of the frame. Masterman, who singled earlier in the inning, scored on a wild pitch before McNamee produced his second RBI of the night, a single to score Nick Estrella (Azusa Pacific). 

Led by a Hamel RBI double and two more sacrifice flies, the Dragons knotted the score at five in the eighth. 

The Dutchmen put the winning run on second in the bottom of the ninth, but Dragons’ reliever Christian Allegretti (St. Thomas Aquinas) induced a ground out to end the frame. 

Albany reliever and eventual winning pitcher, Alex Schwartz (RCBC), retired the side in order in the top of the tenth inning. He went two and two thirds innings and allowed one hit and one walk with a strikeout. 

Zachary Merchant (Southern New Hampshire) started for the Dutchmen and pitched six innings and allowed two runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Regan Dombroski (Monmouth) started for the Dragons and went five innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits. He walked three and had six strikeouts in the no-decision.

The Dutchmen will be back in action at Saugerties at 4:00 pm on Sunday before playing a doubleheader on Monday in Oneonta. The Dutchmen return home on Tuesday for Guaranteed Win Night against the Saugerties Stallions. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm.

The Dragons will play at home on Sunday and host the East Division leading Amsterdam Mohawks at 7:05 pm.
