Mitch McQueen, Tacoma CC RHP

By: Dutchmen Front Office

The Dutchmen have long believed in mining the junior college ranks for talented arms. In the past it’s netted them PGCBL standouts David Stagg and Cameron Brewer, to name a couple. This year, after adding Alon Leichman from Cypress CC, Albany believes they’ve found another gem in Tacoma CC right-hander Mitch McQueen.

A Washington state native, McQueen was named second team All-State during his senior year of high school where he split time on the mound and behind the dish. Deciding to concentrate on pitching full-time, McQueen signed with Washington State University. After red-shirting his freshman year, McQueen took a spot with the Thunder Bay Border Cats in the Northwoods league. Appearing mainly out of the bullpen, he proved to be a valuable presence, registering a 1.68 ERA in 16 innings pitched.

With a fastball that sinks and can often touch the low 90s and a solid array of secondary pitches, the 6’2” McQueen has been a strong performer in 2013 after transferring to Tacoma CC. Now a member of the rotation, McQueen has a 3.09 ERA in three starts. He’s struck out 18 and walked only two in 20.1 innings of work.

It’s that kind of control and successful history of production that makes the Dutchmen faithful so excited about seeing what McQueen can do in the blue and orange.
