Davitt is the first Dutchmen starting pitcher to receive the Player of the Week award in 2013. In just his second start of the summer, James got the ball in last Saturday’s showdown in Glens Falls, and was nothing short of spectacular. He held the potent Golden Eagles lineup to 2 hits and walked just a single batter. In 7 innings of work, Davitt faced 24 men - only 3 more than the minimum.

Unfortunately for James, his brilliant night did not result in a win. The two teams gave the Saturday night crowd some free baseball, and 9 more innings were played after Davitt’s departure. The Golden Eagles prevailed, 4-3, in the bottom of the 16th - the longest game in the Dutchmen‘s PGCBL history. Nevertheless, Davitt’s performance did not go unnoticed. James was named PGCBL pitcher of the week, making 2013 the third consecutive season a Dutchmen pitcher has earned the award.

A native of Wallingford, CT, Davitt went undefeated as a sophomore, helping lead his school to the Connecticut state championship. He also led his team to the state semifinals as a senior before heading off to Bryant (RI) University.

“This summer is really a development stage for me,” Davitt explained. “I’m focusing on refining my pitches and working on my location.”

Although he hails from much closer than the majority of the Dutchmen players, Davitt had never previously been to Albany. When asked his impression of the Capital City, Davitt uttered a certain four-letter word unsuitable for many ears.

“RAIN!”

Despite the wet weather, James has a sunny disposition when it comes to his Dutchmen experience, and even has a long term forecast for the rest of the summer.

“We just have to keep doing what we’re doing, and we can walk away with a ring.”
