Dutchmen in the NCAA TournamentBy: Ryan Murphy Derrick Armstrong, Mississippi State- Armstrong, an Albany Dutchmen player from 2013, saw NCAA Tournament action as a pinch-runner in Mississippi State’s victory over Jackson State. Armstrong ran in the ninth inning, and promptly stole second base in the Bulldogs’ 3-1 win. The stolen base was Armstrong’s 14th of the season, a team-high. Armstrong also started in Mississippi State’s first loss to Louisiana-Lafayette.
Thomas Belcher, Indiana- A 2013 member of the Dutchmen, Belcher saw action in both of Indiana’s losses to Stanford. Belcher did not allow a run in his third of an inning out of the bullpen in the first game, firing strikes on all four of his pitches. In the second game, Belcher threw 4.2 innings, allowing just one run in the Hoosiers’ final game of the season. Belcher struck out four hitters in his time on the mound. |
