Week #6: July 6 - July 12, 2016

By: Brian Krosky

Harris has only given up a single run in his 18 innings of work this season, giving him the team's second-best ERA at 0.50.

Nate Harris (Louisiana Tech University) has been selected as Spotlight Player of the Week for week #6, which lasted from July 6 - July 12.

Harris, who has been a key arm for the Dutchmen out of the bullpen this season, went eight innings in a pair of relief appearances last week, showing his value for quick outings, but also extended outings when he was needed for multiple innings.

In his eight innings of work, he surrenedered seven hits, but did not give up a single earned run and struck out seven in the 31 batters he faced.

His role has changed as in his first four appearances this year he threw less than two innings for each of them, but has gone at least three innings in his last three appearances.

Harris' strong week also brought his ERA to a miniscule 0.50, which is second on the team for qualifying pitchers to Jeff Rivera's (University of Cumberlands) 0.48.

His first appearance of the week came against the Amsterdam Mohawks in a crucial victory when he relieved Dylan D'Anna (Siena College) after five innings of work, and held on to a one-run lead for three innings, as the Dutchmen would go on to win.

"Dylan set the tone for the game," Harris said in an interview after the game. "I took some things from how he threw, and they were pounding a lot of balls in the dirt so I just relied on my fastball."

Harris' second appearance came in 7-6 loss to the Glens Falls Dragons on July 12, but Harris did everything he could to give the Dutchmen a chance to win. After the Dutchmen staff had given up six runs in the first four innings, Harris came in and went five strong innings allowing only four hits and allowed the Dutchmen to come back and tie the game, before they lost in extra innings.

Harris also mentioned doing whatever he could do to help the Dutchmen move up in the standings and get closer to the team's ahead of them, which they've done winning eight out of their last 12 games, bringing themselves with in only a single game of the 2nd place Oneonta Outlaws, and half of a game behind the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs in 3rd.
