Dutchmen Sign Three Local Players for 2015

By: Dutchmen Front Office

For the Dutchmen organization, one of the most important opportunities every summer is the ability to continue fostering a bond between the team, its players, and the local community. A key component in that is signing local players and giving them a chance to showcase their talents against players from all over the country. In addition to the earlier announcement of Siena pitcher Chris Amorosi, the Dutchmen will field University of Albany teammates Eric Mueller and J.T. Genovese and St. Rose infielder Tyler Ungerland.

They’re excited to continue that this year with Mueller, a right-handed outfielder in his first year with the Great Danes. A Bethlehem, NY native, Mueller was named first-team All-Suburban Council as a junior and senior in high school and second-team as a sophomore. He batted .410 during his career with eight triples before attending Hudson Valley CC where he led the team with a .435 batting average with 50 hits, 30 runs, and 26 RBIs and was named first-team all-area, first-team all-conference, and earned the Thomas Cahill Award, given to the HVCC’s most outstanding male athlete. As a proven performer at various local stops, Mueller is an exciting addition to a Dutchmen roster that’s happy to give him another outlet for his success. Mueller's Player Profile

He’ll be joined by his new University of Albany teammate, J.T. Genovese. The right-handed pitcher is a large presence at 6’9” 250 pounds and has an equally impressive track record to back it up. The Katonah, NY native posted a 15-1 record with a 2.51 ERA and 198 strikeouts in 102 innings pitched during his high school career. He was selected all-league, all-county, all-section and Northern Westchester Examiner Pitcher of the Year. During his freshman year at Albany, Genovese threw twelve innings out of the bullpen, including appearances against Bryant, Fordham, Manhattan, and St. Johns. After another year of seasoning with the Great Danes, Genovese is looking prime to make a real impact this summer with the Dutchmen.  Genovese's Player Profile

The sophomore from Elmira Heights, NY will be playing on his home field this summer and looking to keep the momentum going after a freshman year that saw him start 23 games at a combination of shortstop, third base, and second base, bat .262 with six multi-hit games and a .351 batting average with runners on base. He was also named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the fall semester in recognition of his academic excellence. Before arriving at St. Rose, Ungerland was twice named an IAC All-Star and was named a second-team All-State Pick as a senior. He currently leads the Golden Knights at the plate, batting .300 to start the 2015 collegiate season.  His defensive versatility and potent bat will be a welcome addition to the Dutchmen lineup come June.  Ungerland's Player Profile
