Monday, March 24th, 2014

Jonathan Torres (UNLV): 2013 Dutchmen Jonathan Torres had a big weekend at the plate for the Rebels.  Torres went 4/8, scoring 1 run and driving in 3 more, helping UNLV to a 2-1 series win over San Diego State.

Joe Purritano (Dartmouth): It was a busy week for 2013 Dutchmen Joe Purritano and his Dartmouth Big Green, as they played 6 games in 6 days.  Over that stretch, Purritano went 8/22 at the plate for a .364 average.  He reached base in every game while scoring 6 runs, drawing 5 walks, and driving in 4 runs.  Purritano also hit 2 doubles and a home run in his stellar weekly performance.

Tyler Orris (Millersville): 2013 Dutchmen Tyler Orris is currently on a 9 game hitting streak.  Over that period, he hit for a .364 average, going 12/33 at the plate.  Even more impressive is that those 9 games were played over the course of only 8 days, including 4 double headers- all of which were 7 inning games.  Orris has started all 23 games for the Marauders.

Ed Lewicki (Siena): Over the weekend, 2013 Dutchmen Ed Lewicki led Siena to a win in the middle game of a 3 game series sweep over Niagara.   Getting the start, the right hander pitched 5.2 innings of a 7 inning game, allowing 6 scattered hits and only 2 runs; he picked up the win in a closely contested 3-2 victory.  Lewicki recorded 3 strikeouts while allowing only 2 walks en route to his first win of the season.

AJ Flores (Texas A&M Corpus Christi): 2014 Dutchmen AJ Flores was pivotal in the Islanders’ 8-7 comeback win over Texas Pan American.  After A&M’s starter gave up 5 runs in the 2nd inning, Flores came on to pitch 4.2 innings and shut down Pan American’s offense.  He scattered 5 hits, allowing only 1 earned run and recording 5 strikeouts against only 2 walks.

Update:  2013 Dutchmen Chris Bianchi’s Trinity Tigers had their win streak halted at 16 games in a 9-8, 10th inning loss against Dallas.  Trinity has a 21-2 record on the year and is currently ranked the #1 team in DIII baseball.
