Week #9: April 6-12, 2015By: Ryan Murphy Chris Amorosi, Siena- The local product, who played for the Dutchmen in 2014 and will again this year, tossed a gem on Sunday in Siena’s victory over NYIT. Amorosi threw a seven-inning complete game, allowing just three hits in a 9-0 win. The lefty struck out seven NYIT hitters and walked only three. The win was Amorosi’s second of the year, and dropped his ERA to 2.89. He has walked just six hitters over 28 innings, and has struck out 23 hitters. Mike Reitcheck, Penn- The 2015 Albany pitcher continued his dominance for the Quakers, who sit at 10-2 in the Ivy League. Reitcheck fired eight innings of four-hit ball on Saturday, leading Penn to a 9-2 win over Cornell. Reitcheck struck out six hitters and allowed a pair of runs. Over five starts and one relief outing, Reitcheck has recorded a 2.21 ERA and a 4-1 record in 36.2 innings. He has shown outstanding command, allowing just seven walks and striking out 19 hitters. Josh Lee, Lipscomb- A 2014 Dutchmen infielder, Lee had a career day against Vanderbilt, the No. 1 team in the nation and the school at which Lee began his collegiate career. Lee drove in all three of Lipscomb’s runs in a 3-1 victory in Nashville. Lee accounted for the runs via a first inning sacrifice fly, a sixth inning triple, and an eighth inning single. Both of the run-scoring hits came with two outs in the inning. Lee also drove in a run in the Bisons’ Saturday victory over North Florida. Mike Kaelin, Buffalo- Kaelin, a right-handed pitcher on the 2014 Albany roster, put up yet another dominant performance for the Bulls, earning his fourth save of the season. Kaelin threw three hitless, scoreless innings Sunday in a 6-0 victory over Miami (Ohio). Kaelin struck out six of the 11 hitters he faced, and only allowed base-runners via a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Kaelin’s outstanding 2015 season has been marked by 37 strikeouts in 25.2 innings, and a 2.10 ERA. Opposing hitters are struggling to a .125 batting average against Kaelin. Tyler Orris, Millersville- Orris, a 2013 Dutchmen infielder, has started every game for Millersville, who boasts a record of 28-8. Orris hit .381 this past week, raising his season average to .370. His best game of the week came on Monday, as the shortstop went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Orris drove in runs on a double and a single. He scored seven runs on the week as his Maruaders went 4-2. Michael Jurgella, St. Cloud State- Jurgella’s All-American caliber season kept rolling this week, as the 2012 Albany star hit .421 with seven runs scored and seven runs batted in over a six-game span. A 5-1 week moved the Huskies to 33-3 on the season, and St. Cloud State sits at No. 2 in the nation in DII. He added two more home runs to bring his season total to seven, and leads the team with a .430 average. Justin Brantley, Cleveland Indians organization- Brantley, who played for the Dutchmen as a Siena Saint in 2010 and 2011, came out of the bullpen on opening night for the Lynchburg Hillcats, the advanced A affiliate of the Indians. Brantley fired two scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit and one walk. His work included inducing a flyout from a rehabbing Jayson Werth. He struck out three hitters during his two innings, and Lynchburg claimed an 8-6 victory over the Potomac Nationals. Brandon Trinkwon, Los Angeles Dodgers organization- The 2011 Dutchmen infielder began his third minor league season with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, the Dodgers’ advanced A affiliate. In the team’s opening four games, Trinkwon scored a team-high four runs, propelling the Quakes to a 3-1 record. In a Saturday victory over Bakersfield, Trinkwon drilled a solo home run, the tenth of his professional career. The UC-Santa Barbara product scored a run in all four games, and ended the week with a 2-for-4 performance, including a double. |
