By: Brian Rudman  The Dutchmen fell in a back and forth affair in Saugerties.
Friday, June 11th, in Saugerties the Dutchmen fell to the Stallions 6-5 in a back and forth game that took a walkoff in the bottom of the ninth to end. With the loss, the Dutchmen fall to 3-5 on the season.
Saugerties opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with a crooked number. Colin Mackle (Marist College) cranked a double that drove in Gene Napolitano (Marist College) for the opening run. Jarret Brown (Georgia Southern) then drove Mackle in with a ground-rule double of his own.
It then became a slugfest in the fourth inning. JP Tighe (Georgia Southern) drove one out for the Stallions to make it 3-0. But the Dutchmen would quickly answer back their next turn to the plate.
Adam Zebrowski (St. John Fischer College) made his presence felt with a big fly to put Albany on the board in the top of the fifth. Kyle Vinci (Princeton University) followed that up making it back-to-back jacks bringing the score to 3-2.
The Dutchmen would keep it rolling in the fifth when George Rainer (RPI) drove in Ty Gallagher (Herkimer High School) to even up the scoring. Both pitching staffs would put up zero’s in the sixth inning.
Albany would then grab their only lead of the game in the top of the seventh when Isaac Humphrey (Louisville) drove in Zebrowski with a hit. The lead would not last long for the Dutchmen.
The Stallions would strike back in the bottom half of the inning putting up two more runs of their own. Noah Berghammer (University of Minnesota) drove in Andrew Wilhite (University of Minnesota) to tie up the game. Berghammer would then score on a passed ball to give the home side the lead.
But this back and forth affair was not over yet. The Dutchmen struck right back in the top of the eighth when Rainer made his way around the after getting on with a single to tie things up at 5-5.
The Stallions would then finish the night with some fireworks in the bottom of the ninth. With runners on second and third, Albert Jennings (Washington State University) drove in Tighe for the winning run.
The Dutchmen will be back in action at home tomorrow when the Amsterdam Mohawks come to town for a double header. Game 1 is set to start at 5:00 pm.
