(ALBANY, NY)-- The Albany Dutchmen would like to congratulate five former Dutchmen that won the 2022 College World Series with the Ole Miss Rebels. ‘19 Justin Bench, ‘21 Garrett Wood, ‘18 Max Cioffi, ‘19 Logan Savell, and ‘21 Mitch Murrell were pieces of a Rebels squad that went from being the last team to make the tournament to taking home the title on Sunday afternoon in Omaha.
Ole Miss went 10-1 in their NCAA Tournament run, which included going undefeated in the Coral Gables Regional and Hattiesburg Super Regional. The Rebels historic run was capped off with a sweep of Oklahoma in the Championship Series by scores of 10-3 and 4-2.
Justin Bench served as the Rebels leadoff hitter this season, leading the squad in average (.316), hits (81), doubles (17), and OBP (.409). The Florida native shined in the NCAA tournament, picking up a hit in 10 of the 11 games, and multi-hit games on six occasions. The 2019 Albany Dutchmen Player of the Year batted .353 (18-51) with three doubles and eight RBIs in the NCAA tournament, and added a home run in the Championship Series.
Garrett Wood broke out for the Rebels in the tournament, as he picked up three hits which included an RBI double, and was a massive clubhouse presence for the Rebels down the stretch.
