(ALBANY, NY)-- Albany Dutchmen would like to congratulate three Dutchmen that have been signed by professional baseball teams to pursue their dreams of playing in the big leagues. ‘18 Cam Masterman (Louisville) signed to Oakland Athletics, ‘18 Jerry Huntzinger (Seton Hall) was picked up by Toronto Blue Jays, and ‘22 Dan Keaney (Guilderland HS) joined Texas Rangers.
Cam Masterman led the 2018 Albany Dutchmen with a .357 batting average and 27 RBIs, and was the only Albany player in the past six years to accumulate more than 40 hits on the summer, as the Kentucky native tallied 45 base knocks. Masterman became an everyday starter at Louisville as a junior and senior, including a 2022 All-ACC Third Team nod for a senior campaign that featured a .305 average, 14 doubles, 18 home runs, 61 RBIs, and the game winning home run against Michigan in the Louisville Regional which led to Louisville Regional Most Outstanding Player recognition. Jerry Huntzinger was a staple behind the plate in the summer of 2018, batting .287 with seven doubles and 16 RBIs. The Staten Island native made an immediate impact at Seton Hall in 2019 fresh off his summer in Albany, making starts at catcher and in the outfield, he stole 16 bases which ranked third in the Big East to go with a .250 batting average and 14 RBIs in 50 games. Huntzinger broke out as a senior in 2021, as his speed remained a threat en route to a Big East leading 24 stolen bases, while also ranking top five in conference for hits (55) and walks (24), all en route to All-Big East First Team recognition. The Staten Island native transferred to Xavier for the 2022 season, cashing in his graduate student year. In 2022, Huntzinger led Xavier with 20 stolen bases, while also putting up a .280 average, 13 home runs, and 38 RBIs. Huntzinger joins Xavier teammate, and ‘19 Luke Franzoni (2022 19th round selection by Los Angeles Angels) in the minor leagues.
Dan Keaney (Guilderland HS) was dominant in his senior year locally at Guilderland High School, throwing 30 innings with a 0.99 ERA, 46 strikeouts and .170 opponent batting average en route to being named 1st Team Suburban Council. The righty made four appearances this summer with a 2.87 ERA and 11 strikeouts, including six shutout innings in a win on June 23rd.
