(Guilderland, NY) After losing a close battle to the Saugerties Stallions (3-3) on Sunday, the Albany Dutchmen (4-5) traveled back to their home field looking for a measure of revenge against the Stallions, but would fall 13-3.
Ryan McCarroll (Wheaton College) got the nod for his first start of the summer for the Dutchmen and threw four and a third stellar innings, tallying eight strikeouts against only four hits, no walks and just one run scored.
On the offensive side for the Dutchmen they scored one run in the first inning and then were shut out for the next five innings by a number of pitchers for the Stallions.
After McCarroll came out Clayton Jackson (Trinity University) was put in to relieve McCarroll with a man on but after four walks and a double the Stallions took a 4-1 lead. The Stallions would score another two runs in the sixth inning and then scored a monstrous seven runs in the top of the seventh to put the mercy rule pressure on the Dutchmen.
The Dutchmen would battle back in the bottom of the seventh with Austin Francis (NJIT) and AJ Fasolino (St. Rose) both scoring in the inning. With the score 13-3 the Dutchmen had bases loaded with two outs but unfortunately the final batter popped out to center field ending the game.
The Dutchmen have Tuesday off before returning to Dutchmen Field on Wednesday against the Utica Blue Sox, and will get another shot at the Saugerties Stallions at Cantine Field on Thursday.
