The Albany Dutchmen are excited to announce the scheduling of an exhibition game against Houston Astros' MiLB affiliate, Tri-City ValleyCats, on Wednesday, June 17th. The game will be played at Joe Bruno Stadium in Troy, NY at 10:00AM as part of the ValleyCats’ 2nd Annual Education Day.
The Dutchmen compete in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League while the ValleyCats play in the Class A Short Season New York Penn League.
"We are excited to be partnering with the ValleyCats to showcase top collegiate and professional baseball talent from across the country right here in the Capital Region,” said Dutchmen Vice President & General Manager, Jason Brinkman. “This is a great opportunity to not only showcase talented baseball prospects, but also use baseball as an educational tool for local students."
Last year’s Education Day game drew a sell-out crowd of over 5,500 fans, with 34 different Capital Region schools attending the game. However, this year’s game will be open to the general public as well, with tickets being made available at tcvalleycats.com.
This year, the ValleyCats are looking forward to building upon its success as they host the Dutchmen.
"Based upon the success of last year's event, we are thrilled to continue this educational initiative." said ValleyCats Vice President / General Manager Rick Murphy. "The exhibition format has also allowed us to invite the Albany Dutchmen to play a game at "The Joe" which is a unique event for the Capital Region baseball community."
Over 140 former players from the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League are currently playing professional baseball. Dutchmen Head Coach Nick Davey said, “This will be a great opportunity for our guys to experience professional baseball, which is the ultimate aspiration for all of our players.”
