The PGCBL is proud to announce the schedule for the 2016 season.
The regular season will begin on Wednesday, June 1 and will run through Sunday, July 31. The 2016 PGCBL postseason will begin on Monday, Aug. 1. The league championship series are tentatively scheduled for Aug. 2-4, while the PGCBL Championship Series is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 6-8.
"We have stayed with what our fans have asked for, geographical rivalries,” said PGCBL President Jeff Kunion. "So many of our fans would come up to me at games last year and comment how they loved to be able to support their club on the road at nearby stadiums. This schedule really puts an emphasis on bolstering these intense rivalries. I am also excited about adding two additional teams to the playoffs and showcasing players in three former NYPL stadiums that joined our roster of ballparks this year."
Each of the PGCBL’s 13 teams will play a 50-game schedule. The schedule can be found here.
The 2016 PGCBL All-Star Game will be played on July 20. The location of the game will be announced at a later date.
This offseason, the PGCBL has added three teams — the Oneonta Outlaws, Geneva Red Wings and the Jamestown Jammers. The Outlaws will compete in the East Division, meaning the East will have six teams while the Red Wings and Jammers will be in the seven-team West Division.
The East Division features the Amsterdam Mohawks, the Albany Dutchmen, the Glens Falls Dragons, the 2015 PGCBL Champion Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs, Oneonta and the Saugerties Stallions. Competing in the West Division will be the Adirondack Trail Blazers, the Elmira Pioneers, Geneva, Jamestown, the Newark Pilots, the Utica Brewers and the 2015 West Division Champion Victor RailRiders.
The top four teams in each division will advance to the postseason. The No. 4 seed and the No. 1 seed will square off in a one-game playoff and will face off against the winner of the one-game playoff between the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds. The winner of each one-game playoff will proceed to the East Division Championship and West Division Championship Series, respectively. For more on the change in playoff structure, go here.
