The Albany Dutchmen are ecstatic to announce that the 2016 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game will be held at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany. The sixth PGCBL All-Star Game presented by CSEA will be held on Wednesday, July 20. The game is being held in Albany for the first time after previous games were held in Elmira, Amsterdam, Newark, and Little Falls.
“We are extremely excited to be hosting this year’s PGCBL All-Star Game in New York’s Capital City,” said Dutchmen Vice President and General Manager Jason Brinkman. “This is one of the most exciting events in our history, and we are eager to bring in the best our league has to offer to showcase their skills to scouts from every MLB team and Dutchmen fans in the Capital District.”
Team President Paul Samulski added that fans from around upstate New York will want to make their way to Albany in July.
“As our fans know, Bellizzi Field is a fantastic place to take in a game,” Samulski said. “We are overjoyed to have been chosen as hosts, and will show fans, players, coaches, and staff from the other twelve franchises the best the Albany Dutchmen can provide.”
The 2016 All-Star Game will be presented by CSEA. CSEA President Danny Donohue said partnering with the Dutchmen and the PGCBL serves as a way to promote baseball across the state.
"CSEA is proud to partner with baseball at all levels across New York," Donohue said. "This All-Star Game in our state's capital reinforces how important baseball is to strong communities today, building on history and tradition."
The All-Star Game festivities will include scout day activities, the PGCBL Home Run Derby, and the All-Star Game itself.
The East Division, which consists of the Dutchmen, the Amsterdam Mohawks, the Glens Falls Dragons, the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs, the Saugerties Stallions, and the Oneonta Outlaws, has never lost a PGCBL All-Star Game in four tries.
PGCBL President Jeff Kunion said fans will have the opportunity to see dozens of future professional baseball players at Bellizzi Field on July 20.
The PGCBL All Star Game is always an exciting event. We showcase some of the best college talent in the country for MLB scouts," Kunion said. "I know the Dutchmen plan on putting on an incredible event for our fans. It's going to be a special night in Albany."
26 players wearing a Dutchmen uniform have played in the first five PGCBL All-Star Games, including Zach Remillard (Coastal Carolina), the only three-time All-Star in league history. The 2013 Home Run Derby was also won by a Dutchmen player, current Tampa Bay Rays prospect Matt Dacey.
The PGCBL is affiliated with Perfect Game, the largest independent scouting service in the country. Last year, more than 1,400 professional players had either worn the uniform of a PGCBL team or participated in a Perfect Game event.
