Dutchmen Lose Final Game before Valley Cats ContestBy: Christian De Guzman The Albany Dutchmen (6-4) dropped its first road game of the year, losing to the Amsterdam Mohawks (6-4) by a score of 7-0. The Dutchmen bullpen spoiled a great start from Dylan D’Anna (Siena College). He went 4 innings and allowed just 2 hits. He struck out 4 batters as well. Jackson Bubala (Dartmouth College) pitched 2 innings of relief and gave up 1 run on four hits. He would be credited with the loss after Mohawk 1st baseman Nick Patten (University of Delaware) hit an RBI single that scored Tyler Frank (Florida Atlantic University). Jack Owens (Bryant University) pitched the 7th inning and allowed the 2nd Mohawk run to score. Mohawk left fielder Chris LaVorgna (Franklin Pierce University) scored on a Chris Givin (Xavier University) sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 2-0 Amsterdam. Cooper Jones (University of Southern Mississippi) struggled in his Dutchmen debut. In the 8th inning, the Mohawks pounced on Jones and scored 5 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks. The highlight of the inning for Amsterdam came from catcher Joe Genord (University of South Florida). He hit a 3-run double to increase the Mohawk lead to 6-0 at the time. The Dutchmen batters struggled throughout the night against the Amsterdam pitching. Albany only managed 3 hits against the 3 Mohawk pitchers. Those hits came courtesy of JJ Shimko (University of South Carolina Upstate), Kyle Skeels (Coastal Carolina University) and Jack Gethings (Fairfield University). The Dutchmen patience at the plate continued to show, as 5 batters walked. The Dutchmen have now walked 56 times this season. Tim Herrin (Indiana University) started his second consecutive game against the Dutchmen. He performed much better than his last outing, as he struck out 7 Dutchmen batters and only allowed 4 walks and 1 hit. The winning pitcher would be Johnny Malatesta (New Jersey Institute of Technology), as he relieved Herrin at the top of the 5th inning. Malatesta would go 3 innings and allow 1 hit while striking out 2. Tim Naughton (North Carolina State University) pitched the final 2 innings for the Mohawks. He would allow 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 1. The Mohawks travel to Little Falls to play the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs tomorrow, June 15th, at 6:35 p.m. They return to Shuttleworth Park on Thursday, June 16th, to face off against the Glens Falls Dragons at 6:35 p.m. The Dutchmen play an exhibition game against the Tri-City Valley Cats at Joe Bruno Stadium in Tory at 10:00 a.m. The next Albany home game at Bob Bellizzi Field will be on Thursday, June 16th, as the Utica Blue Sox come to town.
