ALBANY, N.Y. – The Albany Dutchmen continued their best stretch of baseball in team history by sweeping a double header over Glens Falls by scores of 1-0 and 8-3 to win their eight league game in a row.

The opener saw Teddy Paisley (Virginia) pitch 4.1 scoreless innings in his Dutchmen debut.  Paisley was matched by Brandon Budlong (Johnson & Wales) who pitched six scoreless innings despite allowing Dutchmen baserunners to reach scoring position with two out in each of the first five innings of the game.

The Dragons almost broke through in the seventh inning when Alex Phillips (Bellarmine) singled and Matt Hamel (Siena) tried to bunt him to second base but catcher Brandt Holland (North Alabama) committed a throwing error that allowed Phillips to advance to third and Hamel to reach second.  Jeff Lonnecker (Trinity) proceeded to work out the jam to give the Dutchmen a chance in the ninth.

The ninth inning saw Brad Gneiting (Rice) reach on a leadoff single and Nick Gallo (Oklahoma State) reach on a walk.  With Trace Tyre (Ole Miss) at the plate, Gneiting and Gallo attempted a double steal.  Catcher Anthony Vaglica (LIU Post) attempted to nail Gneiting at third but threw the ball into left field, allowing Gneiting to come home with the game winning run.

Game two of the doubleheader featured a lot more offense.  The best stretch of the game for the Dutchmen occurred in innings four through six, as Albany put seven out of their eight runs on the board during those innings.  The big blow was Gallo’s two-run double to right field in the fifth inning which allowed the Dutchmen to take 5-3 lead, a lead they would never relinquish.

Albany added three unearned runs in the sixth inning to provide all of the insurance runs they would need, as two errors and a wild pitch made the big inning possible.

The back to back three run innings allowed Albany to take control of the game after the two teams traded runs back and forth during the fourth and fifth innings.

Justin Bureau (Ave Maria) continued his stellar relief work for the Dutchmen, as he finished the game with 2.1 scoreless innings and picked up the win.  Bureau has not allowed a run this season.

Tyre was the star on offense in both games, going a combined three for four between the two games, which followed a four hit effort last night against the Utica Blue Sox.  Tyre’s batting average is now a team-leading .472.

In addition to the game action, it was also Special Olympics night at the ballpark.  All of Albany’s players volunteered to help out before the game and joined in the dance party after the game.

The Dutchmen hit the road tomorrow night to take on the Adirondack Trail Blazers at 7:05 P.M.

Albany will return home on Tuesday night to take on Glens Falls again at 5:05, for the first of two consecutive home games for the Dutchmen.  Tuesday night will be Bacon Night at Siena Field.
