SAUGERTIES, N.Y.- The Albany Dutchmen (3-0) tallied 16 hits to help themselves collect their third win of the year, a 9-6 win over the Saugerties Stallions (0-5) on Tuesday evening.
Griffen Herrera (Azusa Pacific) led the way for the Dutchmen going 4-for-6, while driving in one run and scoring two of his own. Cameron Masterman (Louisville) also added four hits in five at-bats and drove in a run himself.
Albany started the scoring off early when Nick Grande (Stony Brook) scored on a Masterman single. Saugerties tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) doubled off of Dutchmen starter, Steven Plaskett (Air Force), to score Dillon Good (Lock Haven).
The Dutchmen came back and scored four runs over the next three innings to take a 5-1 advantage. In the bottom of the sixth, the Stallions rallied for four runs to tie the game once again at 5-5.
In the seventh, the Dutchmen regained the lead when Cameron Collett (Marshall) tripled home two runs, and then scored on a dropped third strike.
Albany capped off their scoring in the eighth when Jerry Huntzinger (Seton Hall) singled home Herrera to take a 9-5 lead.
Saugerties could only manage one run in the ninth, and the Dutchmen took the win 9-6.
Dalton Harvey (Illinois State) earned the win for Albany, tossing two innings, allowing a run on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Steven Plaskett (Air Force) started for the Dutchmen and allowed a run on two hits. He walked two and registered five strikeouts.
Saugerties reliever Sam Bryns (Le Moyne) took the loss after surrendering the eventual winning runs in the seventh inning.
After an off-day on Wednesday, the Dutchmen return home to face the Glens Falls Dragons on Thursday, June 7th at Connors Park at Siena College for NYSPHSAA Student-Athlete Recognition Night and American Dairy Association Night. The NYSPHSAA Night ceremony is set to begin at 4:45 p.m. with first pitch scheduled at 5:05 p.m.
