Week 1 RecapBy: Joey Palatsky Justin Bench (#10 Ole Miss, ‘19 Dutch) - One of the top hitters from Ole Miss last season is back for his senior season. -Bench was 3-9 with a double and 2 RBIs for the Rebels in a weekend sweep against Charleston Southern.
Anthony Germinerio (UAlbany, ‘21 Dutch) -Averill Park native returns to UAlbany after ranking 2nd on the Great Dane staff in ERA last season. -Germinerio held nationally ranked Georgia to 2 runs in his 6 innings of work, and was in line for the victory before the Danes fell 7-6.
Luke Gold (Boston College, ‘19 Dutch) -The fifth ranked second baseman in the NCAA according to D1 Baseball is back at Boston College after leading the squad in home runs (9) and RBI (45) in 2021. -Ballston Spa grad was 3-4 with 3 RBIs, a double, and a home run in a slugfest on Sunday.
Nick Grabek (Fairfield, ‘18 & ‘19 Dutch) -Grabek is back at Fairfield for his fifth year after being a key bullpen piece for a Stags team that had a historic season in 2021. -Guilderland High grad picked up two saves in a combined 3.2 hitless innings, Grabek is now 4 saves away from breaking Fairfield career saves record.
Dylan Johnson (St. John’s, ‘21 Dutch) -BIG East Preseason Freshman of the Year worked out of the bullpen for his first collegiate appearance. -Johnson threw 4 shutout innings on Saturday to help keep the Johnnies in a game they trailed 5-0, before completing the 7-6 comeback win.
Cam Masterman (Louisville, ‘18 Dutch) -Masterman returns to Louisville for his senior season after being an everyday starter for the Cardinals in 2021. -A former Spotlight Player of the Week in Albany continues to shine at Louisville, as he leads the team in batting average through the first series, after going 5-10 on the weekend.
Ben Metzinger (Louisville, ‘19 Dutch) -Metzinger was one of four former Dutchmen to crack the 2022 opening day starting lineup for Louisville. -The first two runs of the season for Louisville came courtesy of a two run blast off the bat of Metzinger in the first inning of their season, the senior went 4-12 with 4 RBIs and a home run for the Cardinals.
Ian Murphy (St. John’s, ‘19 Dutch) -Murphy returns to St. John’s after a dominant 2021 season, in which he was one of three Johnnies pitchers to finish the season holding opponents to a batting average under .200. -Murphy got the nod as the St. John’s opening day starter and threw 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 runs and fanning 5. |
