Tyler Young (Lehigh) has been named the Generation Land Management Player of the Week for Week One of the 2022 season (6/3-6/11), a week that saw the Dutchmen go 7-1.

Young batted .429 (12-28), with two doubles, a triple, a home run, 10 RBIs, seven walks, and five stolen bases across the eight game stretch, while carrying a .543 OBP, .679 SLG, and 1.222 OPS. The Pennsylvania native’s 12 hits lead the Dutchmen, he is one of two players on the squad with a triple, one of five with a home run, and the only player with one of each. Young’s 10 RBIs, seven walks, .543 OBP, .679 SLG and 1.222 OPS all lead the seven-win Dutchmen squad, and rank top five in the PGCBL.

The Dutchmen shortstop is an integral part to a Dutchmen lineup that leads the league in team hits (72), runs (75), total bases (106), OBP (.446), and SLG (.459). Young attributes his success as well as the team’s success to the confidence and energy the team brings everyday.

“We play with confidence, we’re playing loose, we pick each other up, we’re very aggressive at the plate and it’s been working out well, I’m grateful to be in a great spot where I can play confident, we’re winning a lot of games and I’m glad I can be a part of it,”” Young said.

Young had a fantastic school ball season en route to being named Second Team All-Patriot League shortstop for a sophomore campaign that featured a .348 batting average, 31 RBIs, .439 OBP, and 10 doubles. The Dutchmen leadoff hitter says seeing live pitching and having success in the spring has jump started his start.

“Having live at bats in spring was huge, the confidence from the spring has helped me help this team and I’m excited to help this team,” Young said.

While the Dutchmen roster is not yet at full strength, having a smaller group to begin the season has made the team mesh a bit quicker, and everyone on the roster, including Young has been getting acclimated to Albany quickly.

“The field is awesome, jerseys are awesome, I wore a youth medium for the black jersey but I swung the bat well so I can’t complain, the atmosphere at Keenholts is awesome and I’m excited for the rest of the summer,” Young said.

Young will continue to be an essential part of the Dutchmen lineup throughout the season, and has a mentality at the plate for himself to help his overall goal for the team.

“I want to keep being aggressive, keep driving in runs, and keep helping this team win, I’m willing to do anything to help the team,” Young said.
