Chance Checca (Herkimer) named Week Two Player of the Week Sponsored by Generation Land Management

By: Joey Palatsky

Chance Checca (Herkimer) has been named the Generation Land Management Player of the Week for Week Two (6/13/22-6/19/22). Checca batted .529 (9-17) with a hit in all five games this week, the Ballston Spa native picked up three doubles, a triple, and seven RBIs on the week.

Checca raised his batting average from .200 to .393 and his OPS from .650 to 1.112 over his five game hot streak. Checca has been outstanding both with speed and with runners on base, as he is one of just three players in PGCBL with multiple triples this season, and his 10 RBIs ranks 11th in the league.

“The ball lately has been looking like a beach ball, can’t do anything without the team, they have to get on to get the RBIs,” Checca said.

Checca is one of three Dutchmen players along with Ty Gallagher and Luke Pusz that were members of the 2022 D3 Juco World Series Herkimer Generals team. Being able to make in-season mental adjustments at Herkimer helped the infielder turn his school ball season around, and get off to a hot start in Albany this summer.

“Spring started a little slow for me, as time went on I stopped thinking about hitting the ball and just putting it in play, brought it here, not trying to think of hitting the ball over the fence every at bat, just trying to get on,” Checca said.

Checca and the Dutchmen head to Oneonta for a 7:00 first pitch on Tuesday, June 21st to take on the Outlaws.
