Sean Spicer, Baylor University RHP

By: Dutchmen Front Office

A 2010 Rawlings Second Team All-Region selection, the Dallas native was a Perfect Game top 1000 prospect prior to attending Baylor. A power-hitting first baseman as well, Spicer was an All-District hitter and pitcher before concentrating just on the mound. This caused him to red-shirt his first year at Baylor and begin carving out a role for himself out of the bullpen, which involved a save against the Houston Cougars in 2012.

During the 2013 season, Spicer has been throwing as both a starter and reliever for the Bears. In his first career start, Spicer struck out three and allowed only one hit in a victory over Texas State. He later was called on out of the bullpen against nationally ranked Houston, throwing four hitless innings. It lowered his ERA to 3.46 on the season, while also keeping his batting average against to a miniscule .205. With a 1-0 record and only nine hits given up in 13 innings, Spicer is well on his way to becoming a key member of the Baylor staff.

If the production keeps up, Albany fans are likely to see the right-hander with the ball frequently throughout the course of the summer.
