Week #3: Ben Seabrook, RHP, Univ of North Alabama

By: Dutchmen Front Office

Seabrook has been dominant out of the Dutchmen bullpen this summer. In 6 games, Ben has allowed just 2 hits, and opponents have yet to score a run off of him. His 4 saves and perfect 0.00 ERA both lead the PGCBL.

A right-hander from Huntsville, AL, Seabrook helped his Madison Academy team reach 3 consecutive state championship games, winning once. A starter in high school, Seabrook pitched a perfect game as a senior. However, when called upon to close at the University of North Alabama, he didn’t hesitate.

“I was surprised by the move,” Seabrook recalled. “That’s a big responsibility for a freshman. You’re usually in a high pressure situation, and you don’t want to overthink it. So I like to get ready as quick as possible.”

“The main thing for me is to go out there and throw strikes, night after night, and let my defense do the work for me.”

Fortunately, his transition to the bullpen could not have gone smoother. Seabrook set a school record with 12 saves, and has been virtually unhittable for Albany.

Seabrook notched his first win of the summer on June 23, getting out of a bases-loaded, no out jam in the 7th without allowing a run to score. With his win and 4 saves, Ben has had a hand in half of the Dutchmen’s 10 victories.

Seabrook’s influence doesn’t end there. Closers have long had a reputation for keeping things loose in the clubhouse, and Ben is no exception.

“I definitely love to have fun,” Seabrook said with a smile, “and all of my teammates can vouch for that! The guys are great. We’ve only been here about a month now, and it seems like we are all best friends. This is one of my favorite teams I‘ve ever been on.”
