Matt Gallup (University at Albany): 2013 Dutchmen Matt Gallup was named America East Pitcher of the Week after his performance in a 2-1 series win against UMBC over the weekend. Gallup was instrumental in both of UAlbany’s victories, picking up a win and a save. On Saturday, Gallup came on to pitch the final inning, allowing only one hit and recording a strikeout, picking up his first save of the season while securing a 9-7 victory. On Sunday, he came on to pitch the final three innings to collect his first win of the season, allowing only two hits while picking up three strikeouts in the team’s 6-4 win.
Matt Dacey (Richmond): Matt Dacey continued his hot start to the season, picking up two game winning hits over the weekend. On Saturday, the 2013 Dutchmen collected 3 RBI, including the eventual game winning runs with a 2-run home run in the 5th inning. Richmond went on to win the game over Penn, 5-3. On Sunday, Dacey knocked in the Spiders’ only run of the game in a 1-0 win over Penn with a 2 out RBI single in the 3rd inning.
Cody Ellis (Norfolk State): 2012 Dutchmen Cody Ellis is off to a fast start for the Spartans this season, hitting for a .313 average- the team’s second best batting average. Ellis has played in 18/19 games for Norfolk State this season.
Garren Palmer (Georgia Southern): Garren Palmer has helped lead the Georgia Southern Eagles to an impressive 16-4 start. The 2011 Dutchmen currently holds a .345 batting average and has played in 13 of the team’s 20 games, including wins over Georgia and Georgia Tech.
Trevor Lacosse (Bryant): 2012 Dutchmen Trevor Lacosse picked up his first 2 saves of the year in the past week. On Tuesday, March 11th, Lacosse came on to close out a 1-0 win over North Carolina A&T by pitching 1.1 hitless innings to pick up the save. On Friday, March 14th, Lacosse again came on in the 8th inning, this time preserving a 9-6 victory over East Tennessee State. He again threw a hitless outing, closing out the final 1.2 innings.
Note: As a follow up to our report last week on 2013 Dutchmen Chris Bianchi and his Trinity Tigers' winning streak...they have extended their current winning streak to 14 games and are 18-1 on the season.
