Week 2: February 1-7

The seasons for more Albany Dutchmen alumni got underway this past week, with more teams playing the opening games of their 2016 campaigns. A group of former Dutchmen standouts contributed to winning efforts in the early part of the season, and more Albany alumni will start play over the next several weeks. The alumni spotlighted this week played for Dutchmen teams spanning three seasons, both at the plate and on the mound.

Hunter Boose, Augusta (FKA Georgia Regents)- The 2015 Dutchmen shortstop continued a hot start to his season, recording five hits in twelve at-bats in three weekend wins. Boose went 3-for-5 with three RBIs in a Friday win over Claflin, driving in runs on singles in the second and seventh innings. The infielder also scored a pair of hits with two doubles in a win on Saturday over King University. Through five games, Boose is hitting .476 with four runs batted in, and his Augusta Jaguars sit at 4-1.

Jose Hernandez, Bryan College- The pitcher from the 2013 and 2014 Dutchmen rosters pitched twice during the opening week for Bryan College, which saw the Lions earn a four game sweep over Rio Grande. Hernandez posted two scoreless innings, and recorded a save in his second outing, a 2-1 victory. Hernandez did not allow a hit over his two innings, and was the only Lion reliever to pitch both on Friday and Saturday.

Tyler Orris, Millersville- Orris, a 2013 Dutchmen alum, started all four games of the opening weekend for Millersville, who won three out of four games on the road against Winston Salem State. Orris recorded four hits during the series, driving in a pair of runs and scoring another. His RBIs came in a 4-2 loss, when the shortstop drilled a double down the left field line to bring a pair of runs to the plate. The infielder also stole a team-high three bases during the four game set, a team-high.

Brian Ruhm, Cal Baptist- A 2013 Albany outfielder, Ruhm helped the Lancers to a series victory over Cal State Los Angeles. In the three game series, Ruhm was the offensive leader for Cal Baptist, driving in three runs and recording a .417 batting average with five hits in 12 at bats. The outfielder also supplied a double and an outfield assist in the weekend series. Ruhm started all three games of the series, playing in both right and left field.
