Dutchmen defeat Saugerties 9-6.
(Saugerties, NY)-- Albany Dutchmen defeated the Saugerties Stallions in a thrilling 9-6 win on Friday night.
Mitch Murrell (Ole Miss) was brilliant on the mound for the Dutchmen, throwing six no hit innings while punching out seven.
Albany got off to an early lead in the second frame, Nick Schwartz (St. John’s) hit a solo home run to lead off the inning as the Dutchmen would strike first. Jack Peterson (Trinity) singled in Johnny Decker (Stony Brook), and Ryan McGee (Siena) picked up a two RBI single that brought in Ty Gallagher (Herkimer) and Jack Peterson (Trinity) to cap off a four run inning.
In the fifth inning Albany expanded their lead on a two run home run by Ryan McGee (Siena) that also scored Jake Defayette (RPI) for McGee’s third and fourth RBIs on the day to make it a 6-0 game.
Saugerties cut the Dutchmen lead in half in the seventh inning. Kip Fougerousse (Indiana) singled in Noah Berghammer (Wisconsin) and Jack Renwick (Wofford) doubled in Josh Stevenson (LSU) and Kip Fougerousse (Indiana).
Saugerties tied the game up in the eighth frame on a Kip Fougerousse (Indiana) three run shot that plated Josh Stevenson (LSU) and Max Morris (St. Thomas) to equalize the ballgame at six runs apiece.
Albany took the lead in the top of the ninth inning as Tom Kretzler (Brockport) banged a pinch hit three run home run that scored Chase Carroll (UAlbany) and Ty Gallagher (Herkimer) to put Albany ahead 9-6, which would be the eventual final score.
Albany takes on Mohawk Valley on the road at 6:35 tomorrow night, and the Dutchmen return home for the final home game of 2021 on Tuesday at 6:35 against the Oneonta Outlaws.
