Quiet Night
After losing on Saturday to Utica, the Albany Dutchmen (5-8) came back to Dutchmen Field at Keenholts Park looking to bounce back against the Saugerties Stallions (4-5). Monday’s contest would be the first of three games this week between the Stallions and Dutchmen, and the Stallions would end up winning the opener 5-2.
Derek Duval (Post University) got the start for the Dutchmen, pitching the first three innings scoreless. However, Duval ran into some trouble in the fourth, giving up a solo home run to Corey Dowdell (Georgia Southern) to give Saugerties a 1-0 lead. Duval was hit with the home run bug once again in his sixth and final inning of work, giving up a two-run shot to Damion Kenealy (Polk St).
The Dutchmen line up struggled against the Stallions battalion of pitchers, only getting four hits and scoring two runs. Their first run came in the eighth inning when Steven Nitch (Barry University) scored on a wild pitch. They scored again in the ninth on Josh Foglia’s (Hudson Valley Community College/Uncommitted) RBI single. They would threaten with two runners on in the ninth when Mike Talavera (Hudson Valley Community College/Uncommitted) was thrown out trying to score on a wild pitch to end the game.
The Dutchmen travel to Saugerties tomorrow before returning to Dutchmen Field on Wednesday to face the Amsterdam Mohawks. The game against the Mohawks will be broadcasted live on Facebook Live. First pitch is set for 6:35.
