Tuesday L
The Dutch started off the game strong, scoring their first and only run in the second inning on a bases loaded walk by Mike Talevera (HVCC). Will Plattner (Ole Miss), Austin Francis (NJIT), and Josh Foglia (HVCC) all got on base via the walk in that second inning, making the job easy for Albany. However, after that run, it became difficult for the Dutchmen to add to their lead or to get any batters on base at all, only having four hits and three walks for the remainder of the game.
Dutchmen starter David James (USC Upstate) pitched a flawless game, going seven innings, allowing three hits, and striking out five. James lowered his season ERA to an astounding 0.53, showing why he is a key member for this Dutchmen team. After his departure, Saugerties took that opportunity to rally, scoring a run in the eighth inning to tie via an Alex Nevils (Wofford) RBI walk. With the game tied heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Stallions saved their best baseball to the end, walking the game off with an RBI single from Eli Small (Kentucky).
The Dutchmen’s record falls to 5-9 after losing their fourth straight, while Saugerties brings their record back to .500, at 5-5, with all five of their victories coming against Albany. The Dutch attempt to bounce back at home Wednesday against the Amsterdam Mohawks. First pitch scheduled for 6:35.
