(GLENS FALLS, NY): The Albany Dutchmen (6-10) were able to put up 9 runs in 9 innings and pick up a much needed win against their rivals, the Glens Falls Dragons (5-9). CJ Kuentzel (Iona University) was able to grab his first win of the season after a dominant outing.
The Dutchmen were held to only one hit in the first two innings, but in a real team effort the Dutchmen offense was able to explode for six runs in the third. Korson Hastings (Trinity University) led off the inning with a single as he attacked the first pitch he saw. Next, with runners on first and second, Joseph Karpierz (Xavier University) was able to load the bases with a perfectly placed bunt.
The scoring barrage was then led by Mike Talavera (Hudson Valley CC), Vince Venditti (The College of Saint Rose), Anderson Moreno (Southern New Hampshire University), Tyler Kipp (Fairfield University), and Will Plattner (Ole Miss/Transfer Portal) who all contributed RBIs.
However, Albany would not get complacent as they put up an additional run in the fourth inning and two more in the ninth.
Their lead was never in doubt as the Dutchmen pitching staff was able to hold the Dragons to only one run. Kuentzel pitched five spectacular innings in which he only allowed one hit and struck out six. The Dutchmen bullpen was able to seal the deal as Greg Mays (SUNY Cortland), Danny Iglesias (St. Thomas University), Austin Trumpour (Southern New Hampshire University), and Grant Smeltzer (Fairfield University) combined for four hits and one run in relief.
Tomorrow, the Dutchmen will return home looking to continue their offensive production against the Saugerties Stallions. If you are unable to make it to Dutchmen Field for tomorrow’s 6:35pm game, be sure to tune into the broadcast on Facebook Live.
