Dutchmen Comeback Falls Short Against DragonsBy: Kenny Girard June 25th, 2023
(Glens Falls, NY) After a large win over the Glens Falls Dragons (6-9) on Friday, the Albany Dutchmen (6-11) traveled back to East Field in Glens Falls looking for a repeat of Friday Night, but would fall 12-10.
After three innings the Dutchmen would find themselves in an 8-1 hole vs the Dragons. The Dutchmen would quickly begin their comback efforts starting in the fourth inning when a groundout by Steven Nitch (Barry University) allowed Korson Hastings (Trinity University) to cross the plate to bring the score to 8-2.
The Dutchmen would have a huge fifth inning starting with single by Vince Venditti (St. Rose). Venditti used his speed to his advatage and stole second base followed by a wild pitch allowing Venditti to make his way to third base without any crack of the bat. With runners on the corners both Mario Cubello (St.John Fisher) and Venditti would cross the plate when a pick off attempt was botched followed by a bad throw back to the diamond. The Dutchmen would load the bases with a Brody Keneston (Le Moyne) single and walks to Tre Mariano (Toledo) and Will Platter (Ole Miss). With the bases loaded the Dragons looked to the bull pen for right handed pither Owen Goodridge (Assumption University) to enter the game.
The call to the bull pen would lead to Keneston being walked home and the bases being loaded again with Hastings joining his teammates around the bases. JT Vance (Mississippi College) came up to bat and a perfectly placed single allowed Mariano to cross the plate cutting the Dragons lead down to just three runs. After out number two occured Joe Karpierz (Xavier) smoked a single into right center allowing Platter and Hastings to score with Vance caught at home ending the top half of the fifth all tied up at 8!
The Dutchmens comeback attempt would begin with a one out run by Keneston after Platter roped a single into left field and a misplay allowed Keneston to take a trip home. The Dragons would then collect the next two outs they needed to take the victory over the Dutchmen 12-10.
