Former two-time Dutchmen and Cohoes, NY native Will Remillard was named the Chicago Cubs minor league Player of the Month for April. Remillard currently plays for the Cubs Single-A affiliate Kane County Cougars in Illinois. This award is given based on the performance of all players in the Cubs minor league system.
In 2013, the Chicago Cubs drafted Will Remillard in the 19th round out of Coastal Carolina. The past month of April was Remillard’s first as a professional. During that time he hit .373 with six doubles, one home run and 15 RBI. Throughout April, Remillard added five multi-hit games, two of which were four-hit games. As a catcher, Remillard also shined defensively. Behind the plate he has thrown out seven of 22 baserunners and has yet to commit an error in 173 chances.
Prior to being drafted by the Chicago Cubs, Will Remillard was a member of the 2011 and 2012 Albany Dutchmen. During the 2011 summer months Remillard finished second on the team in both home runs and RBI. Once the PGCBL season concluded, Remillard was named to the PGCBL Rising Stars team as a catcher. For the summer of 2012, Remillard returned to his hometown team and continued to shine. As the season progressed, Will was acknowledged for his success by being named to the 2012 PGCBL All-Star Game.
