Putting together a strong starting rotation consists of finding a talented, yet diverse set of arms. The Dutchmen took another step in completing this task by signing Heartland CC freshman Justin Curry, and Siena College freshman Chris Amorosi.

A 5’1Justin Curry.jpg0” right-hander from West Point, Indiana, Curry came to Heartland after a successful career at McCutcheon High School. Listed by Perfect Game as a 2013 All Central Region member, and a 2012 Underclass High Honorable Mention, Curry was ranked as the 6th best pitcher in his Indiana high school class and the 12th best player overall. Curry has been an immediate success for the Hawks, appearing in eight games for a 36-11 team that is a regular contending for the Division One JUCO Championship. The freshman has tossed 26.1 innings, allowing 23 hits and striking out 30 batters on his way to a 3.76 ERA. Packing a lot of power into a shorter frame, his 10.25 strikeouts per nine innings is the third highest on the team. With his pedigree and proven success at the collegiate level, Curry figures to be an impactful member of the Dutchmen rotation this summer.

Joining Curry in a battle for a rotation spot will be left-hander Chris Amorosi. The left-hander from Schenectady, New York was a Team MChris Amorosi - Siena.jpgVP and three-time All-League and All-Area selection at Schalmont High School. Amorosi also concluded his career by being selected Fifth Team All-State Class B and being awarded NYSPHSAA Scholar Team Award. Coming off an injury at the end of his high school career, Amorosi has worked his way into the mix at Siena, making six appearances out of the bullpen. He’s struck out eight batters in 10.2 innings, displaying good control and a solid feel for the college game. The Saints have begun stretching out Amorosi’s appearances, allowing him to throw 4.1 innings of relief to keep them in a recent game against Binghamton. As he continues to prove he is fully recovered from injury, Amorosi figures to be an important part of the Dutchmen staff.
