Every season the Dutchmen organization prides itself on creating a family atmosphere and competitive environment that players from around the country can enjoy. Which is why it’s particularly exciting when the team is able to welcome back former players for multiple seasons. This summer, the Dutchmen will feature three returning players, 2014 teammates Sean Aspinall (Azusa Pacific) and Chris Amorosi (Siena) and two-time Dutchmen, Jack Wietlispach (Robert Morris).
Sean Aspinall returns to the Dutchmen after a stellar campaign during the 2014 summer that landed him on the PGCBL All Star Team and won him the Recognize Awards Dutchmen Player of the Year Award. The Upland, California native led the Dutchmen with a .336 batting average, 12 doubles, and 26 RBIs. He also swiped eight bases and scored 21 times, proving to be the Dutchmen’s most valuable offensive threat, while also playing near flawless defense in the outfield. A freshman for Azusa last season, Aspinall appeared in 27 games, hitting .240 with a .316 on-base percentage. It was a learning year for the right-handed hitter, who is looking forward to a breakout season for the NAIA powerhouse before returning to Albany to pace the Dutchmen for another season.

Joining Apsinall for his second straight Dutchmen summer is left-handed pitcher Chris Amoro
si. The Schenectady native, and sophomore at Siena, missed most of last season with an arm injury, but was supremely effective when he took the mound for the Dutchmen. In five appearances, four of which were starts, Amorosi registered a 2.76 ERA and allowed only fourteen hits in sixteen-plus innings. The 6’0” 190-pounder is looking to put his past injuries behind him and establish himself as a valuable member of both the Siena and Albany rotations.

Rounding out the group of returners will be utilityman Jack Wietlispach, who was a member of both the 2012 and 2013 Dutchmen. A community favorite, Wietlispach’s past Dutchmen summers have been cut short, or affected, by injury, playing in only 22 games in 2013 and battling multiple injuries during his 2012 campaign. However, the Illinois native won over teammates and fans with his infectious attitude and competitive drive. Coming off a successful season at Triton College that saw him hit .344 with 17 doubles, three home runs, and 43 RBIs, Wietlispach transferred to Robert Morris to finish off his college career. In his final turn in Dutchmen colors, the versatile veteran will seek to guide Albany over the hump and to a PGCBL championship.
