Indiana State is sending two to the 2016 Dutchmen
The Albany Dutchmen have always sought to bring in high level players from across the country. This season, the Dutchmen have signed a pair of players from one of the nation's top mid-major programs in Indiana State. The Sycamores currently sit at 23-13, and are among the top teams in the Missouri Valley Conference. Albany is happy to welcome righthanded pitcher Evan Giles and infielder Dillin Diehm to the 2016 roster.
Evan Giles comes to Albany after his freshman season with the Sycamores. Giles has pitched four times in his opening season, striking out four hitters in four innings pitched. His best outing of the season came on March 15, facing No. 12 NC State. Giles pitched the game's final two innings, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts. The Franklin, Indiana native came to Indiana State as one of the top 25 prospects in the state, and one of the top dozen righthanded pitchers. Perfect Game named him an All-Central Region Honorable Mention selection as a senior, as well as a two-time Underclass Honorable Mention selection. At Franklin High School, he was named to All-State and All-Conference teams.
Joining Giles in Albany colors is infielder Dillin Diehm, a Fort Wayne, Indiana native. Diehm, who is redshirting this season at Indiana State, is a powerful hitter that will play corner infield spots for the Dutchmen. Diehm signed with the Sycamores out of Garrett High School, where he was a Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American for the Central Region. Perfect Game listed him as the best first baseman in the state of Indiana, and among the top 30 first basemen in the nation. He also played in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association's North-South All-Star Series. In his junior season, Diehm hit nearly .500 with eight home runs and 25 runs batted in.
The Dutchmen are pleased to have these two Sycamores headed to New York's capital city for the 2016 PGCBL season. The signing of Diehm and Giles will add another piece to what will hopefully be a historic season in under two months.
