GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – Despite finishing off the July 12th suspended contest strong with an 8-4 win, the Dutchmen drop their regularly scheduled game against the Dragons by a score of 7-3.

Justin Bureau (Ave Maria) pitched the 9th for the Dutchmen in the continuation game, and continued his all-star season with a perfect inning, alongside three strikeouts.

Tonight’s regularly scheduled contest saw all-star pitcher Tommy Miller (Siena) take the mound for Albany, as Brandon Budlong (Johnson & Wales [RI]) took the mound for Glens Falls.

Brandon Torres (SUNY Oneonta) got it started for Glens Falls with a steal of home in the bottom of the 1st that marked the first run of the game.

Albany was able to strike back in the top of the 5th, scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Chris Villa (Seton Hall) was able to bring Justin Childers (Ohio Dominican) across the plate off of a triple. The second run came on a Brad Gneiting (Rice) RBI single that scored Chris Villa.

The 5th inning marked the first of four straight innings where the Dragons would score off the Dutchmen pitchers. In the 5th, the Dragons struck back with three runs. After Phoenix Hernandez (Southern New Hampshire) led off with a double and Brandon Torres reached base on a walk, Jared Morello (St. Joseph’s [VT]) blasted a 2 RBI triple that revitalized the Dragons squad. Anthony Vaglica (LIU Post) hit a sac fly to Dutchmen right fielder Brad Gneiting, which allowed Morello to score from third, making the score 4-2 Glens Falls.

Dutchmen pitcher Tommy Miller exited the game in the 6th inning after surrendering a leadoff double to Glens Falls first baseman Ryan Beamish (Lee). Deaven Phillips (Ave Maria) took over on the mound for Miller.

In the 6th inning, Phoenix Hernandez continued his successful day with an RBI off of a fielder’s choice, increasing the Dragons lead to three.

Ryan Beamish collected his second hit of the game in the 7th for Glens Falls with an RBI single that scored Jared Morello.

The Dutchmen turned to the bullpen once more in the 8th inning, bringing in Daniel Fischer (Louisville), who was making his first appearance since a June 21st contest against Saugerties. Fischer had left the game in the first inning of the 6/21 contest due to elbow inflammation, and has been recovering ever since.

Fischer came in and faced four batters in his one inning of work and surrendered a run to Phoenix Hernandez, who collected his second RBI of the day, making the score 7-2 Glens Falls.

In the 9th, Albany attempted to mount a comeback against Glens Falls reliever Robert Paccione (LIU Post). The Dragons deficit was decreased to four after Chris Villa scored on a Paccione wild pitch, but a strikeout by Trace Tyre (Ole Miss) put the nail in the coffin.

In tonight's contest, Tommy Miller takes the loss, marking his first loss of the season with his record now sitting at 3-1. Brandon Budlong records his second win of the season with his record now sitting at 2-2.

With the 7-3 loss, the Dutchmen fall to 20-12 on the season, as they currently sit in 3rd place in the East Division. Glens Falls improves their record to 11-23, currently sitting in 6th place in the East Division.

Albany is back in action tomorrow night in Amsterdam, as they take on the 1st place Mohawks at 6:35PM. The Dutchmen look to gain ground on Amsterdam, as they chase the #1 seed in the second half of the season.
