2011 & 2012 Dutchmen Will Remillard (Chicago Cubs)

Tuesday, April 8th, 2014

Will Remillard (Chicago Cubs): 2011 & 2012 Dutchmen Will Remillard (Coastal Carolina) made his professional debut for the Chicago Cubs’ minor league Class A affiliate, Kane County Cougars, this week.  Remillard played in two games, providing identical stat lines for his first two appearances in the minor leagues; in each game he was 1/4 at the plate and scored one run.  Remillard made his professional debut during MLB spring training on March 8th, when the Cubs took on the Cincinnati Reds.  He drew a walk and scored a run in his first outing with the parent ball club.

Josh Lee (Lipscomb): Recently signed Dutchmen Josh Lee had an absolute breakout weekend for Lipscomb in a three game series sweep of East Tennessee State.  In the three games, Lee went an incredible 9/13 at the plate, picking up four RBI, four runs scored, and two doubles.  He set the tone for the weekend in the first game of the series, going a perfect 5/5 at the plate, helping Lipscomb to a 9-7 victory.  On the season, Lee is hitting .318 and has played in 27 of the Bisons’ 33 games.

Morgan Phillips (College of Charleston): 2012 Dutchmen Morgan Phillips ended week #5 on a six game hitting streak and showed no signs of slowing down at the plate in week #6, picking up a conference player of the week award in the process.  Phillips improved his hit streak to 10 games, going a combined 9/19 over a four game stretch this week.  On Sunday, he was a monster at the plate.  Phillips pounded out three doubles and a three-run home run in a 4/5 performance with the bat.  He also tacked on three runs scored and three RBI in the same game.  Phillips was named CAA Player of the Week for his performance.  He also improved his average to a team leading .333 on the season.

Ryan Welke (College of Charleston): Morgan Phillips wasn’t the only former Dutchmen that excelled for the College of Charleston this week.  2011 Dutchmen Ryan Welke was also in a groove at the plate, picking up seven hits in thirteen at bats.  Welke's extended stat line included three runs scored, three RBI, one double, and a walk.  Phillips and Welke helped the Cougars go 4-0 against their opponents this week and improved the team’s record to 21-10 on the season

Tyler Alitz (Garden City CC): Recently signed infielder Tyler Alitz is currently on an 11 game hitting streak for Garden City CC.  In the past week, Alitz went 6/13 over a four game stretch, scoring two runs and collecting four RBI.

Zach Remillard (Coastal Carolina): While we just highlighted Zach Remillard’s achievements last week, we would be remiss not to mention what he accomplished this week.  Playing five games in six days, Remillard went 10/19 at the plate for the Chanticleers.  During that stretch, Remillard had his second four hit game of the season, coming just three days after his first four hit performance.  The recent offensive explosion increased his batting average by 36 percentage points in just one week and he is currently hitting .323 for the season.
